Overseers Scholars Program

The Overseers Scholars Program identifies, recruits and develops top-ranking undergraduate students to win important national fellowship competitions. Through the program, students gain the sophisticated perspective and social presence required to qualify for prestigious fellowships. These fellowships include widely recognized awards including Rhodes, Fullbright, Truman and Goldwater, as well as a host of others supporting research and study at home and abroad that bring substantial monetary support and academic honors.

Through the essential support of the UofL Foundation, the Overseers Scholars Program is marked with success. In 2008, seven UofL students and alumni were selected to teach abroad and research through the Fullbright Program. In the last six years, 27 UofL students have been recipients of this prestigious honor.

"The Foundation has provided tremendous support for the Overseers Scholarship Endowment Fund by providing the initial funding until the Overseers raise $1 million from their own solicitation. It has also paid for opera, ballet, and other arts tickets to enhance the cultural education of our honors students. We have generated Truman and Fulbright scholars from among this pool, and it has been an excellent attraction for outstanding students."
